Welcome to the 2008-2009 Season of Literature to Life! Citizenship & Censorship: these words surround all of this Season's selections, most specifically the 2009 Literature to Life Award winning selection FAHRENHEIT 451 by Ray Bradbury which will premiere in Spring 2009. It's thrilling to be preparing this selection to share with our nationwide educational audiences. Wynn Handman, co-founder and artistic director of the Theatre, is hard at work on the adaptation, and rehearsals begin in September. What's more, this selection coincides with NEA's Big Read list, making Fahrenheit 451 the perfect work of literature to read as a community or school group.
Also new to the roster this Season, and available for booking now, is best-selling author Sherman Alexie's latest novel, FLIGHT. This contemporary and moving portrait of a young Native American boy lost in the foster care system directly addresses issues of youth violence. One class of students taught by a teacher on our educator advisory board commented on how addictive the process of reading the book was. They clamored for more and are eager to be among the first audiences of the Literature to Life adaptation.
