A twenty minute live performance of Edgar Allan Poe’s short story, The Tell Tale Heart and his poems, Annabel Lee and The Bells.
Students will have the chance to meet Poe, first the writer and then the man including a portrait of his extraordinary ambition and determination. Students will explore the nature and origins behind Poe’s tortured soul. Despite the tragedy that seemed to chase, surround and haunt Poe he managed to write dozens of short stories, poems, essays and novels. “Ye Gods, did I not write? I knew not the word “ease.” By day, I adhered to my desk, by night, a pale student. I consumed the midnight oil. I sat head down, bowing my head down to the alabaster page.”
This dynamic educational event will culminate with an interactive exploration of Poe’s poetic devices that will lead to student’s creating their own original performance poem piece.

"I like the mood I got in when she read the poem. I could feel the sadness even though she was reading a poem. I've learned from all of this that you can take anything that obsesses you and write it down and create a story."Student,
