Reading RoomZits, an orphaned mixed-race Native American teen, travels through history to discover an alternative to his contemplated acts of violence.

This Literature to Life original, adapted in 2008 features sixty minutes of verbatim performance from the innovative contemporary novel by Native American author Sherman Alexie. A favorite at universities, the piece has performed from California Polytechnic University to Southeastern Louisiana University. In this heart-wrenching performance, the actor manages to channel the authentic rage of a disaffected youth while at the same time balancing the fantastical elements of the Mr. Alexie’s complex text. He brings the audience on a journey back to the battle of Little Big Horn where the protagonist learns the lessons of his forefather’s mistakes. The performance penetrates the audience and warns us of the dangers of our violent past. Surrounded by a pre and post show interactive discussion the audience will explore themes including Native American history, identity and violence.

Posted by Rob BradshawOur new tour of Sherman Alexie’s Flight has been very successful since its opening in September 2008. Because Alexie is a terrific writer and I’m always telling myself I should go to the theater, “Flight” seemed like a can’t-miss proposition, a chance to do something fun and different and interesting….”

"The ending got me as it did in the novel. I 'm rooting for Michael, he doesPatricia Ponce,
have something to live for in his new family and helping out officer Dave,
so I think he will be okay and choose to believe and trust in people again."
