Reading RoomThis classic American novel presents a frightening vision of the future: fireman don't put out fires - they start them in order to burn books.

This Literature to Life award winner was adapted for the stage in 2008 and helped to launch the company’s national literacy effort, Project 451. The show features sixty minutes of performance spanning the full breadth of this beloved American Science Fiction novel. A master of character work, the actor tells the story from the perspective of the protagonist, Montag, and seamlessly transitions between the five other primary characters. The adaptation presents a haunting look at the dangers of censorship in a modern world. Surrounded by an interactive pre and post show discussion the audience will explore themes including Censorship and Civil Disobedience.

Posted by David KenerWe’ve been seeing Fahrenheit 451 in the news a lot lately, specifically connected to the new edition of Huckleberry Finn that is being published by Alan Gribben and NewSouth Books. As mentioned in a piece on AOL, in this edition Gribben has removed Twain’s use of the “N” word and replaced it with the word “slave.” Our own David Kener wrote an article for RHI, Random House Inc.’s publication on banned books and censorship (available as a free download here) about an eerily similar issue we faced with our Literature to Life title Black Boy by Richard Wright.
