Teaching Artist Training for Teaching Artists

The American Place Theatre is expanding our core of independently contracted, experienced Teaching Artists for our LITERATURE TO LIFE® Stage Presentations, Living Library, Residency and Professional Development programming.

Literature to LifeĀ®, The American Place Theatre's renowned drama-based literacy program, is accepting applications from professional Teaching Artists for enrollment in Teaching Artist Training. We are well-poised to add new talent to our growing Company, and we are looking for passionate individuals who approach their work with creativity, enthusiasm, and professionalism.

Each participant who completes the Training program in its entirety will be strongly considered for work as a Teaching Artist with Literature to Life. Potential work includes facilitation of pre/post show discussions and in-school residencies.

Complete details, dates, and application information are included in the downloadable PDF brochure below. Accepted participants will receive a modest stipend for the Training.

Teaching Artist Recruitment & Training Application

Application materials are due on or before July 8, 2011.

Women, minorities, veterans, and people with disabilities are strongly encouraged to apply.

Qualified applicants will be considered without discrimination on the basis of age, color, disability, marital or parental status, race, religion or creed, sex or gender, gender identity and gender expression, sexual orientation, national origin, ancestry, veteran status, or any other basis in law.

LITERATURE TO LIFE®, The American Place Theatre's performance-based literacy program, presents professionally staged verbatim adaptations of significant American literary works. The educational programs give students new ways to access literature by bringing to life the world of books through performances and residencies that create an atmosphere of discovery and spark the imagination. Our performances tour locally and nationally, and the 2008-09 academic season already promises to expand our national presence exponentially.

Paul King & Blueprint

As part of our 2005 Teaching Artist Training Masters Program, The American Place Theatre had the distinct honor of welcoming NYCDOE Theatre Division Head, Paul King, to our Training Program. Paul generously engaged our TA's with insight into the creation and proposed use of this fantastic document. It is our pleasure to know make that discussion public and share this valuable information with you.
